Video before the babysitter
Twenty minutes prevents an evening arranged for nothing.
Parents
The problem here is not motivation and not choice. It is logistics: every free evening has to be arranged in advance, which makes a wasted one cost far more than it looks.
A free evening for you is not time that opened up, it is time that was organised: custody arrangements, a babysitter, sometimes a favour from somebody close. That changes the whole calculation of a first date.
For somebody without children, a wasted date is an evening. For you it is an evening, money, and a favour you spent. So twenty minutes on a video call before booking the babysitter is worth it.
That is not coldness or a lack of romance. It is what makes this possible at all at this stage of life.
That you have children: yes, visible, early. It filters out in advance anybody it does not suit and prevents an unpleasant conversation later. Relationship status is a profile field and can be filtered on the radar.
Details about the children: no. No names, no exact ages, no photographs of them, no school. Your profile is yours, and they did not choose to be in it.
The same rule applies to conversations. A question about your children is fair and kind. Identifying details are something you share when you know somebody, not after a week of talking.
Social circles cross, and a parent’s profile can reach other parents from the same class. That is a real consideration.
Private mode takes you off everybody’s radar while you keep browsing and approaching. You can also set your photograph to be revealed only after a mutual match.
And the location: it snaps to a grid of about 150 metres before any distance is computed, and bearings are rounded. Nobody can work out from the app where you live, which matters more when there are children in the house.
Twenty minutes prevents an evening arranged for nothing.
Visible that there are. No names, ages or photographs.
Snapped location and rounded bearings, on the radar too.
Yes, and early. It filters out in advance anybody it does not suit and saves both sides time. Relationship status is a profile field.
Not advisable. They did not choose to appear on a dating profile, and the photograph is shown to people you do not know. A picture of you alone also works better in practice.
Much later than it seems. The common rule is only once the relationship is stable and serious, not in order to test whether it is.
Private mode takes you off everybody’s radar, and you can set your photograph to be revealed only after a mutual match. Blocking removes a specific person permanently, search included.
