Cities

Dating by city

Israel is small, but what distance means varies a great deal from place to place. Five kilometres in Tel Aviv is fifteen minutes; five kilometres in Haifa can be the same or three times that, depending on whether it is up the mountain.

What is on each city page

Three things written for that city: who lives there and what that means for the pool, where it makes sense to meet the first time, and what distance means from there, including which neighbouring places are worth widening the range for.

And what they share: the explanation of how the radar works and why it does not reveal where you are. That is identical everywhere and there is no point rewriting it six times.

Why six and not sixty

Because the English-speaking population in Israel is concentrated in a handful of places, and a city page written for an audience that is not there helps nobody. The Hebrew version of this site carries eighteen cities, which is where the wider demand actually is.

And what is true everywhere: your position snaps to a fixed grid of about 150 metres before any distance is computed, and bearings are rounded. The smaller the community, the more that matters, because in a small place an exact distance and bearing are enough to point at a building.
