Why a call before the date changes everything
Texting is a forgiving medium. You can rewrite a sentence five times, answer an hour later, and come across sharper than you are. That is exactly what makes a long exchange of messages unreliable evidence: at the end of it you know the edited version of a person, and the edited version is not who turns up at the cafe.
A live video call gives back everything texting hides. The pace somebody speaks at, when they laugh, whether they ask you anything at all, and how they react when something is unclear. Ten minutes is enough to know whether it is worth arranging.
There is a purely practical side too. A first date costs an evening, money and sometimes an hour each way. A video call costs ten minutes. The arithmetic is not complicated.
How it works on TOKME
The call happens inside the app. You hand over no phone number, you do not move to another messenger, and you do not give somebody you met two days ago a direct line to you. If you later block them, the block genuinely works, because they never had anything but your account.
The call itself runs directly between the two devices over WebRTC. It is not recorded and it is not stored by us. Our server only helps the two phones find each other.
A calling pass costs one credit for the pair and lasts a week, covering voice and video together. The app shows how many days are left, so you never pay twice for the same week.
Captions and translation in real time
You can turn on live captions during a call. They are written as you speak, and if the two of you use different languages, each reads the other in their own.
The feature started as an answer to dating across a language, but it helps just as much if you are hard of hearing or standing somewhere noisy. Switching it off is immediate, and the audio stops being sent with it.

Are video calls recorded?
No. The call runs directly between the devices and is never stored by us. If captions are on, short audio segments are sent for immediate transcription and are not kept after processing.
What does a video call cost?
One credit opens a calling pass for the pair, valid for a week and covering voice and video together. During that week you can talk without limit and without further charge, and the app shows the days remaining.
Do I have to give out my phone number?
No. Calls happen inside TOKME. You decide whether and when to share personal details, and there is no way for anybody to reach you outside the app unless you choose it.
What if the connection drops?
Call again within the same week at no extra cost. The pass is measured in days, not minutes.
