Timing

When to move from the screen to meeting

The short answer is sooner than is comfortable. The long answer explains why a long wait damages the very thing it is meant to protect.

Why waiting hurts

The idea behind waiting is reasonable: get to know somebody before meeting. The problem is that texting does not really get to know anybody.

Texting is a forgiving medium where a sentence can be rewritten five times and answered an hour later. After a fortnight you know an edited version of a person, and that version does not turn up at the cafe.

Worse, after a fortnight expectation has been built. The meeting is no longer a check, it is an exam, and both sides arrive tense. The identical meeting after three days would have been easy.

The timing that works in practice

Two to four days of messages is enough to know whether there is anything to talk about. After that, a voice call or a short video call.

The live call is the step that saves the most. Ten minutes tells you whether the conversation flows, whether they ask you anything at all, and how two seconds of silence feels. Those three predict a good date better than any amount of texting.

If the live call went well, you can arrange to meet without hesitation. If it did not, you saved an evening, a journey and some money.

And about caution

A video call is not only a time saving, it is a verification. It confirms the person in front of you is the person in the photographs, which almost eliminates the fake profile scenario.

On TOKME the call is inside the app, without handing over a phone number. You are not giving somebody you met three days ago a direct line to you, and blocking afterwards genuinely works.

And when you do meet: a public place the first time, tell somebody close where you are going, and arrange your own travel.

A practical timeline

Two to four days

Enough to know whether there is anything to talk about.

Then a live call

Ten minutes that reveal what a fortnight of messages will not.

Then arrange it

Public place, somebody knows, and your own travel.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I message before meeting?

Two to four days, then a voice or video call. Waiting longer builds expectation rather than knowledge, and damages the meeting itself.

What if I am not ready to meet?

Then a short video call is exactly the middle step. It reveals nearly everything a meeting would, without leaving home and without sharing details.

What if they refuse a video call?

One plausible reason, three different reasons is a pattern. Consistent refusal of a short call is the strongest early sign of a romance scam.

Who should suggest meeting?

Whoever wants to. There is no rule and no harm in suggesting first. A short concrete proposal works better than a hint.

The app is almost here. Want to know when?

The address is used for the launch notice and nothing else. We will not pass it on, and you can leave the list at any time.
